Bungalow Kitchen Addition – 2009 PRISM Award Best Kitchen Remodel Under $75,000

prismlogo2_09_choeWhen Thad Welch bought his Arligton bungalow, his plans for its transformation were always beyond his time and budget. His dark and dirty kitchen, dating back to the 1960’s would have to suffice with his bachelor lifestyle. All that would need to change when he married Sung Choe.

Site setbacks limited the size of the addition to a mere 3 feet, but within that space, architect Michael Kim doubled the amount of light entering the house. Kitchen Designer Charlotte Bogardus took maximum advantage with value oriented Ultracraft cabinets and a unique island shape inspired by Sung, a pianist.

The project is living proof that with an inspired design, intelligent choices and solid craftsmanship, a small project can have a big impact right away.

Thad’s life will never be the same again.
