Case Study/Colonial, White House, Jamaica Plain

From the front of the house, nothing reveals the ‘true identity’ of the new renovation except the unexpected brightness of the interior. This mild-mannered post-war colonial was transformed into a light, spacious, glass-walled house of the owners’ dreams. The rear of the house was opened with large sliding glass doors, and a ‘gravity-defying’ deck appears to float directly outside the dining room, giving the house access to the outdoors and panoramic views of the sloped, wooded site.

An exceptional example of how a limited-budget remodel can have a big impact, this house developed a completely different character without added square footage.
